The Rooms We Miss the Most

There’s something that happens after a trip to Europe.

You come home inspired, but also a little melancholy.

The food somehow tasted better there. Afternoon Campari spritzes felt entirely reasonable. Lunch stretched longer than expected. Even ordinary moments felt slower, more beautiful, and more intentional.

And then you return home.

The cafés feel quieter here. The terraces less romantic. Rooms somehow feel too empty, too rushed, too new. You begin craving spaces with a bit more soul. Softer lighting. Worn wood. Linen that doesn’t feel precious. A chair pulled casually into the garden for an evening drink.

Over the years, we’ve noticed something interesting at Gild & Co. Many clients visit us shortly after returning from Europe. Sometimes they arrive with photos saved on their phones. Sometimes they can’t quite explain what they’re looking for, only that they want their homes to feel more like the places they’ve just left.

Not themed. Not overly decorated. Just layered, relaxed, and deeply lived in.

Perhaps that’s why antiques resonate so strongly. Or why handwoven baskets, old mirrors, soft lamps, garden chairs, books, and natural linen never really go out of style. They remind us of a slower and more intentional way of living.

This time of year especially, our showroom begins to feel a little European itself. Garden chairs waiting near the front door. Linen upholstery catching the afternoon light. Shelves layered with glassware, baskets, and objects collected over time rather than all at once.

We’ve recently returned from our own travels through Italy and France and have found ourselves thinking less about “decorating” and more about atmosphere. The homes and hotels we loved most weren’t necessarily grand—they simply understood warmth, texture, lighting, and comfort in a very instinctive way.

That feeling is something we care deeply about at Gild & Co.

If you’ve recently returned home and find yourself longing for just a touch of Europe again, we hope you’ll stop by the showroom.

Warmly,

Bonnie
