Antique French Confit Pots & Country Pottery
Antique French glazed storage pots, often known as confit pots, were essential vessels in traditional French kitchens before refrigeration. Made from terracotta and partially glazed, these pots were used to preserve foods such as duck or goose confit under a protective layer of fat.
The interior and upper portion of the pot were glazed to seal the earthenware and keep contents fresh, while the lower section was often left unglazed so the vessel could be buried in cool cellars to aid preservation.
Today, antique French pottery like confit pots is prized for its rustic beauty, handmade character, and rich patina developed through years of use. These historic vessels are often displayed in kitchens, on open shelving, or used to hold flowers, utensils, or greenery, bringing timeless French country charm to interiors.
