A Softer Side of Spring

A Softer Side of Spring

There’s a particular moment after a long weekend — when you return home, set your things down, and see your space again with fresh eyes.

Often, nothing is wrong.

And yet, something feels just slightly off. A little heavy. A little winter-worn.

Spring doesn’t always call for a complete reset. More often, it asks for something softer — a shift in texture, tone, and lightness that brings a sense of ease back into a room.

At the shop this past week, we’ve been noticing a quiet change. The pieces we’re reaching for feel lighter, more relaxed, and a little less composed.

Not styled — just collected.

Here are a few of the elements we find ourselves returning to this time of year.

The Return of Natural Materials

There’s something grounding about woven textures — baskets, in particular, have a way of softening a space without asking too much of it.

They’re practical, of course — for throws, books, or everyday things — but they also bring a quiet warmth that’s hard to replicate with anything else.

We have an excellent selection of handwoven baskets, and it’s one of those categories that always feels right this time of year. Easy, unfussy, and endlessly useful.

A Different Kind of Cushion

The latest collection from Tensira has just arrived, and they bring a very particular quality to a space — crisp, fresh, and quietly refined.

Made from hand-dyed natural cotton, they have a lightness that feels especially right this time of year. Easy to live with, easy to layer, and never overly precious.

Designed in Paris and produced in West Africa, they strike that balance we’re always drawn to — relaxed, but still elegant.

We’ve been pairing them simply, letting the colours and textures speak without overworking the composition.

The Quiet Presence of Books

Books have a way of grounding a space in something personal.
They offer inspiration, of course — ideas to return to, images to live with — but they also bring a quiet sense of character to a room. A well-chosen stack on a coffee table or shelf says something without needing to explain itself.

We often think of them as one of the easiest layers to introduce. They add height, texture, and a sense of life — whether stacked neatly, left open to a favourite page, or gathered over time.

It’s a simple addition, but one that always makes a space feel more considered.

Layers for Cooler Evenings

Even as the days get longer, the evenings still call for a bit of warmth.

A soft throw over the arm of a chair or folded into a basket adds just enough weight to balance the lightness of the season.

We have a beautiful collection of Belgian throws and pillows arriving over the coming weeks — pieces we look for every year for their quality, texture, and quiet presence in a room.

A More Relaxed Way to Style a Room

If there’s one shift we notice most in spring, it’s this: Rooms become less composed.

A basket slightly out of place.
A cushion that doesn’t quite match.
A throw left where it naturally falls.

It’s a move away from symmetry and toward something more lived-in, more personal.

And often, more beautiful because of it.

A Final Thought

If your home feels like it needs a shift this season, it’s rarely about starting over.

More often, it’s about softening what’s already there — adding a layer, adjusting a texture, or introducing one piece that changes how the room feels.

If you find yourself out and about this week, we’ve been spending time in the shop working through these exact combinations — baskets, textiles, and a few new arrivals that are particularly well-suited to this quieter seasonal shift.

Sometimes it’s easier to see it all come together in person. Come by the showroom or explore spring essentials online.

Why many rooms don’t come together...

There’s a pattern we see often.

Beautiful homes. Thoughtful pieces. But something still feels… unresolved.

Not because of the furniture but because there was never a clear plan to begin with.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been working with Megan Baker Interiors on a new offering designed specifically around this.

Not full-service design. Not simply shopping.

Something in between —
for clients who want a room to feel considered before they invest in it.

We’ll be sharing more soon, along with an exclusive in-store event where you’ll be able to experience it firsthand.

Stay close.
