Antique French Biot Olive Jar - 18th Century Yellow Glazed Terracotta Vessel

Originally used in the south of France for storing olive oil and other provisions, these biot pot or jar vessels are celebrated today for their sculptural presence and centuries-old craftsmanship. A biot pot is a traditional, hand-thrown Provencal terracotta vessel from the village of Biot in Southern France.Their thick walls and glazed interiors made them durable and resistant, while their sculptural form has made them highly sought after in today’s interiors.  Today, 18th century Biot pots or jars are prized for their warm patina, historic craftsmanship, and ability to bring authentic European character to both indoor and outdoor spaces. The yellow glazed rim helped prevent insects from climbing into the stored olive oil.

In excellent 18th-century condition. Wear is consistent with age and use.
